Surfers Against Sewage: New Report Highlights Ongoing Sewage Pollution

Surfers Against Sewage’s latest Water Quality Report reveals continued concerns about sewage pollution across UK rivers and coastlines. In 2024, water companies discharged sewage for a total of 4.7 million hours, the equivalent of 592,478 recorded spills in just one year.

At the same time, water bills have increased, environmental targets are being missed, and public confidence in the system is clearly being tested. According to the report, more than a quarter of adults in England have considered not paying their water bills in response.
