A Wonderful Day for Nature at Natural Kendal Festival

Natural Kendal held its second annual festival at the end of September. This year’s festival was based on the theme ‘Back to the Garden’.

Attendees were inspired by key speakers from a variety of organisations associated with gardens and nature. These included Chris Winnick, who spoke about gardening to increase butterflies; Chris Dodd, who shared behind-the-scenes insights into Sir David Attenborough’s Secret Gardens series, including an episode filmed in a garden in Cumbria with the Swallows; and renowned horticulturist Shelagh Todd, who has coined the phrase ‘Wildamental’.

CRKC hosted an information stall and spoke to many people about our efforts and the work we do for a clean River Kent. We were offering samples of Bio-D products as an alternative to products containing phosphates that you can use in your home.

The River Veil, created by Sandgate Primary School with artist Lana Grindley, was beautifully displayed.

Thank you to Mike and Ginny, our dedicated CRKC volunteers, who supported our stall throughout the festival.

A shout-out to the lovely Growing Well representative, who was adjacent to our stall, promoting the mental health benefits that Growing Well provides. They were also giving away organic cucumbers and tomatoes.

CRKC has produced leaflets to support your home and garden, encouraging you to cut down on the use of pesticides and phosphates (in fertilisers), and to adopt more natural and organic methods to encourage wildlife and avoid the run-off of chemicals into our streams and rivers. View our leaflet

Pet owners are also encouraged to consider the responsible use of topical flea treatments and explore environmentally friendly alternatives. Click here

Thank you to all the organisers at Natural Kendal for putting together such a great family-friendly day. We look forward to next year’s festival.
