River Kent Catchment - Himalayan Balsam Removal maximum of 10 people.

CRKC has teamed up with Natural Kendal and SCRT to remove Himalayan balsam from the river Kent catchment.

If you are interested in joining this work party please contact Mary (details below) to confirm that you are coming. Email and mobile phone details are useful. She suggests a maximum of 10 people.

Date and Time: Monday 6th July 9.30-12.30pm

Meeting place: Cross Houses. Map attached. OS ref 571957. what3words: sprays.penny.surprised

Equipment: Wellies are essential. Please bring gardening gloves, over trousers and an old jacket.

Leave Kendal on the A685 Appleby road. About 3 miles after the Morrisons complex,  turn right on to Docker Lane. Stay on the lane to Cross Houses.

Meet at Cross Houses, parking is in the field adjacent to the gate.

(We're grateful to Mike Packham of Docker Hall Farm for allowing access and parking on his field)

We shall be working in small groups covering the 1km stream which flows from Thatchmoor Head to Cross Houses. There are hundreds of plants to tackle in and around the stream bed. There will be at least two return visits to this site at 3 weekly intervals, in case you miss the first.

We recommend you watch the following video before attending the work party ( https://scrt.co.uk/what-we-do/habitat-improvement/invasive-non-native-species-management/himalayan-balsam-control/), which addresses the basics of how to go about effective HB pulling.
